Peter “Gangsta” Burnitt is a man on a mission.
Coming off a stunning 11th place finish at the fifth round of the Yokohama V8 Ute Series at the Philip Island GP circuit, the Logan City Electrical boss man is primed and ready for his shot at the Mountain in less than a week’s time.
“Everything just came together,” said an elated Burnitt after he brought home the CNW Electrical / Kanga Racing XR8 Falcon in a career best 11th place finish in the final race of the weekend at Philip Island, “I felt good in the car all weekend and we showed some great speed.”
Confidence is a big thing in V8 Ute Racing, and going into the Philip Island affair Burnitt had plenty of that up his sleeve.
“We’d spent a whole day doing rides for CNW customers at Queensland Raceway the week before,” admits Peter, “and that had a big effect on my racing at the Island I’m sure. Anytime you can get more time in the car it’s to your benefit. I’m grateful to CNW Electrical for their sponsorship and for the opportunity to take their customers for rides. It’s a fantastic relationship for me on many levels.”
So now, Burnitt switches his attention to the Holy Grail of motorsport locations – Mount Panorama Bathurst, for the sixth round of the series.
“Pete’s in good form,” says Big Gun Racing Team Manager and Engineer Joe De Vries, “and coming into a place like Bathurst that is so important. I think Pete can have a memorable weekend, we’re all very excited about Bathurst.”
Joining Burnitt in the Bathurst assault will be his second son in-law Rohan Barry who made his debut in a Holden V8 Ute last year.
Barry will saddle up in the #6 Denco / One construct XR8 Falcon for his 2010 debut.
“Rohan tested the car this morning at Queensland Raceway,” explains De Vries, “and he did well considering the weather was a bit wet. He’s all set for a good weekend with Pete I’m sure.” Ends release...
