Aside from a couple of bruising encounters, Peter Burnitt was a relatively happy camper in the wash up of the sixth round of the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Series, protected by Armor All at Mt. Panorama Bathurst this weekend.
“I’m kicking myself a bit because I just didn’t get the job done in qualifying,” Burnitt admitted, “it makes the whole weekend so much more difficult when you don’t qualify up in the first half of the field. The racing is more frantic towards the back and the margin for error is so much less. Joe (De Vries) and Jason had the car really nice but I couldn’t do the car speed justice.”
Burnitt was nothing if not spectacular.
In Race One a ‘moment’ on top of the Mountain saw the CNW Electrical / Team Kanga XR8 Falcon spin hard into the wall and inflict damage to the front and rear of the car.
“The boys did a good job to repair the car and we got some good laps in during Race Two. I felt really good in the car, I really love racing at this place.”
Race Three however ended in somewhat of a pear-shaped manner with the CNW Falcon beached in the quicksand coming out of turn one. It was after contact ironically with his son in-law Rohan Barry that Burnitt’s race was ended.
“I’m disappointed that we ended the weekend like that,” he frowned, “we had come together a couple of times during the race earlier but the last one was the biggie.”
Until that point Rohan Barry had enjoyed his Bathurst experience too, considering it was his only appearance for 2010.
“I’ve got to work on my qualifying for the Gold Coast,” says Burnitt as he already turns his attention to the next round in two weeks time, “I have to make things a little easier on myself.”
Burnitt’s next appearance in the CNW Electrical XR8 Falcon will be at his ‘home’ round – the Armor All Gold Coast 600 on November 22-24.
