It’s not unfair to suggest that at the end of the 2010 Season “Big Gun Racing” was a little unsure of it’s future direction.
Peter Burnitt was in good touch but Brad Patton had destroyed his car at the Surfers Paradise event and it threw up an air of uncertainty.

Nobody was 100% sure of the make-up of the team for the coming year but that’s all changed, and changed in a very short space of time!

Where once there were two, sometimes three cars in the massive Big Gun semi-trailer, now there are FOUR!

Peter Burnitt, Brad Patton, Ryal Harris and Greg Willis are now the fighter pilots who base themselves out of USS Big Gun.

It’s a wonder team head engineer Joe De Vries is still alive!

“It’s been a huge effort to pull the four cars together and it’s been very satisfying,” smiles De Vries, “but I wouldn’t want to go through that again.”

Even test days are a concept that requires considerable planning and effort.

Peter Burnitt is proud to announce that CNW / Team Kanga are once again the names associated with his V8 Ute aspirations.

“I can’t thank Brian Webb and the team at CNW enough for their support grins the Logan City Leadfoot Burnitt, “not only did they support me as sponsors but they really got involved in the team. They decked out their offices around Australia with our posters and they brought customers and staff in their droves to our drive days. I really enjoyed being their on-track ambassador last year and I’m proud to do it again in 2011.”

Peter is joined this year again by son-in-law Brad Patton but this time he’s also brought in Queensland livewire Ryal Harris to drive the ex Rob Jarvis XR8 Falcon Ute.

Patton and Harris will form a ‘team within a team’ with a two-car VIP Petfoods sponsored duo that will no doubt put the cat amongst the pigeons.

Add to that Queensland fruit juice magnate Greg Willis in the spectacular “Only Juice” XR8 Falcon and you have four very fast, very cool looking Fords!

Patton has been busy fitting out the Big Gun semi-trailer with some new additions and completely revamping the interior of the trailer.

“We’ve just added more creature comfort for the team,” admits Burnitt, “we’ve got a small but dedicated team of mechanics and engineers on board this year and I want to make sure everyone feels comfortable when we’re on the road.”

The team has tested at Morgan Park and Queensland Raceway and all four drivers agree that this year has the promise of something truly special.

“It’s going to be tough,” warns Burnitt, “with all these V8 Supercar guys in the field and teams stepping up like never before, it’ll be the toughest season on record. We’ll be in there fighting for our place in the points, you can be assured of that!”

Be prepared for the first photos of all four Big Gun team cars and drivers at The Clipsal 500 when it kicks off this Thursday!
